What is a Cardano Staking Pool, exactly?

Cardano staking pools are critical nodes in the Cardano network. It is in charge of producing blocks on the Cardano blockchain, promoting its stakeholders' interests, and ensuring consistent rewards for them.

Why are Cardano Staking Pools required?

Cardano's ADA token holders, known as stakeholders, are selected at random to generate blocks for the blockchain. To be chosen, the stakeholder must be actively connected to the Cardano network in order to validate a block and get the accompanying incentives. The selection odds are directly proportional to the amount of ADA held. For example, having 20,000 ADA may result in an annual selection. Is it necessary to transfer ADA to the pool?

No, it does not. You should never, ever send ADA to any staking pool. Simply delegate a portion or all of your stake to your preferred staking pools via your Daedalus Wallet to qualify for rewards.
